Below we will described some animal food types:

Baardagaam voedingBuffalo worm: (Alphitobius laevigatus)

These are small worms, which well be eaten by the young barbules. No suitable nutrition for adults. The larva (buffalo worm) are the most well-known among the people. From these worms is the buffalo beetle. The buffalo beetle resembles the mealworm, but remains smaller. The entire development stages is approximately 6 weeks and this at + 28 °-27 ° a The humidity should then +-75 to 80%.

The buffalo worm is much-eater and Wolverine and is often fed with stale bread, potato, carrot and Apple. Best storage temperature is between 10 and 15 ° c. So he goes slower pupate.

Baardagaam voedingMealworm: (Tenebrio molitor)

The mealworm is actually not a worm but a larva of beetles. The mealworm lives in the nature of of wood, but also of wheat flour and can be a pest for grain and milk processing companies.

The mealworm seems speaking at a scaled-down Edition of the morioworm. They are worm-like larvae that grow larger and at a length of about 4 cm pupate. They then become a beetle.

Meal worms molt several times during their growth. The mealworm is just after a molt first white and discolours later to golden brown.

Despite that the bearded dragons find them very tasty they are not very healthy. This because they are too fat and low in essential nutrients. In addition, the hard armor for clogging.

Baardagaam voedingMorioworm: (Zophobas morio)

The so-called moriowormen are very similar to morio mealworms, but the worm is clearly larger. The morioworm has a black head and black tail segments. The grubs/worms are approximately 6 inches long, just before pupation. They can with their six short legs surprisingly fast crawling and have a very smooth body.

The animals contain a lot of protein and are a good part of the diet. Enter, of course, not too much. The animals have a fairly hard shell/armour, what for clogging. In addition, the worms a saturated feeling when the bearded dragon eat this.

When the morioworm space has to be only to withdraw, will this worm into a moriokever. The beetle is black and is about 2.5 cm.

Baardagaam voedingPhoenix worms:

Phoenix Worms ® are recommended by veterinarians and are widely used in zoos. The Phoenix Worms are up to 7 weeks at room temperature. In the cooling they are even longer shelf life. The larva are very rich in calcium and phosphorus. Phoenix Worms are a natural weapon against coccidia. This is because the Phoenix Worms ® contain the beneficial lauric acid. In addition, the larvae is low in fat and contain 23 to 61 times more calcium than other feed animals. This high calcium content provides in many sick animals for healing properties. There are many stories where pets that showed little signs of life were better again with the nourishing Phoenix Worms ®.

Baardagaam voedingEarthworms: (Lumbricidae)

These are just in the garden. Earthworms have a worm-like body without legs and elongated, typical also other attachments are missing. There are several types of earthworms. In Netherlands and Belgium come 25 species for (worldwide 2200). Earthworms occur world-wide General for, except in dry climates and in Antarctica.

The rain worm consists of numerous segments. The number of segments takes with age growth over in a special zone near the tip new segments.

Baardagaam voedingCockroaches:

The cockroaches (Blattodea) seem somewhat on beetles, but are nevertheless quite different. The length of various species of cockroaches ranges from less than an inch to 8.

More and more people are discovering the good qualities that this species to a willing feed animal makes. There are several species of cockroaches. The best known is the Red runner. Many species of lizards eat these cockroaches.

Cockroach infestations in the home can difficult to combat because the roaches in crevices and curl up amazingly well against the most common toxins. Therefore, people often stop with keeping these food animals.

Baardagaam voedingCrickets:

Crickets are excellent feed for reptiles, fish, birds and insectivorous mammals, (like e.g. rodents, hedgehogs etc).

The females can be recognized by a mild turf pest the visible at the end of the body with which the eggs are deposited in the soil. The has a mild turf pest at this species a bulge at the end. The cerci are both males and females at the relatively long and thread-shaped. Most crickets are fairly easy to grow. It's just hard for large groups to keep crickets in life due to cannibalism.

Most cricket species are grown;

Baardagaam voedingHouse cricket: (Acheta domesticus)

The house cricket is without doubt the most popular cricket species used as feed animal. With a length of around 15 to 20 mm is an ideal animal feed for reptiles. The color is brown with yellow brown spots, the underside is lighter. On the head are two dark to black bands.

The House cricket can only survive in heated buildings, only to find the kind of outdoor in summer for example around garbage dumps. The cricket is to find all year round and is mainly active in the evening and at night. The sound is a typical getjsirp that good to hear.

They are also easy to grow, but at home there is a lot of crickets mutual cannibalism. There is special gel on the market as cricket food. They should also get plenty of fluids, but in a small layer of water drown the cicadas soon.

Baardagaam voedingSteppe Cricket: (Gryllus assimilis)

The steppe Cricket is a rather quiet kind of seen them make less noise if the House cricket and much less if the field cricket. This steppe cricket will like the field cricket also not as high and far jump as the regular House cricket. Furthermore, the steppe cricket more "meat" to itself as the House cricket seen them what larger and thicker and they are also more nutritious.

Other advantages of this steppe crickets versus the other crickets is that these are a lot slower and they also require higher temperatures making them not long survive when they escape! In addition, there is also less cannibalism as ordinary house crickets.

Baardagaam voedingField cricket: (Gryllus bimaculatus)

The field cricket has wings but mainly lives on and in the soil. He has a round body and a stocky build. Head and neck shield are very sturdy and glossy black and therefore easy to spot. Only the wing base is lighter to yellow.

The males are 18 to 26 millimeters long, females are 19 to 27 mm. males are also easy to distinguish because of the females, however, the latter a mild turf pest clearly visible that the eggs are deposited in the soil.

The biotope of the cricket field consists of sunny, dry and light-covered places.

Baardagaam voedingRodents:

When the bearded dragon is large enough, there may be different nest animals fed like e.g. pinkies (nest-mice and rats), hamsters etc.

The nest animals contain a lot of calcium which is good for the bearded dragon. Especially when the females eggs they can create extra nutrients as calcium to good use. Also after laying the eggs are nest sprinkles to make good to put them back. In this period they can sometimes 2 x a week one or two nest mice.

Watch out with conducting nest animals. This should not be too often, this means that there is a kidney problems or fatty liver and even in the worst case in the long run to death. It is sufficient to so recommended to feed not more than 1 x every 3 months a nest animal.

Baardagaam voedingGrasshopper:

The grasshopper is after the cricket currently number 2 most given food animal under the reptiles holders. Grasshoppers are also always high on the wish list at bearded dragons.

Locusts grow seems easy. In itself is that it also, but then on a small scale. Locusts are often offered in different sizes. They contain many proteins, provided that sufficient lined!

Some people cut the wings off them for they argue their reptiles, this is totally not necessary. If the grasshoppers can fly they are harder to pack for the bearded dragon, making the bearded dragon must move to more the grasshopper.

Please note on the conduct of grasshoppers. The brackets on the legs can, namely in the mouth between the teeth stuck, leaving the mouth can go.

wasmotlarveWasmotlarve:

Large wax moths are grey or Brown, about 1.5 cm long with a wing width of 2-3 cm. the eggs are white and very small. These insects are strong, odorless and easy to grow. The grubs are milky white or light as such was eclipsed. When they are disturbed they crawl very fast backward, as fast as they creep forward.

The larvae spin silk thread while they eat. Wasmotlarve are not really part of the diet. Wasmotlarve contain few nutrients for the bearded Dragon and a lot of fat. This is so every now and then as delicacy "candies".

Baardagaam voedingCat and dog food:

Agamas may also katte-or dog food. Some people give moist food (canned food) enter, however, this contains more preservatives than dry food (kibble). Dry dog food are often larger and often have a different structure than cats chunks. Therefore we advise to high-quality cat food (e.g. seniors nutrition of veterinary brand). The pieces should never be fed dry as they can often turn it off when they are damp. When the kibble dry, they can be eaten in the abdomen so still go off.

Specify the bearded dragons but very rarely cat food. Cats chunks are generally given when there is less food animals be eaten, to make sure the bearded dragon yet animal protein gets inside. The tasty meat sometimes air can also stimulate the bearded dragon pieces aroused to go eat. However, it is not good to often or too much to give about the salt and fat content pieces in the kibble. (animal nutrition for cats-dogs is nml often flavored with fats) Too much salt in the diet can affect the liver of the baardgaam.
