Health care Bearded Dragon: Mite

Mite

Mites are not as common in bearded dragons. Mites look like small (1 mm) red (blood mites), black or brown polka dot and are usually hiding under the scales and/or skin folds. They feed on the blood of your bearded Dragon. These suck the blood of their host in such a way that they seriously weaken and/or cause infection.

Symptoms:

Dark red to black, 1 mm large, bumps (mites) are often in the skin fold, under scales and in the ooropening.

Cause:

Vaak worden ze door andere dieren (of bodembedekking) overgedragen. They are often transferred by other animals (or land cover).

Treatment:

There are many different methods to fight the mites, but there are few methods really fit.. As soon as you notice them then go to your veterinarian and this will give you the appropriate medication. Recommended is to quarantine the affected animal and thoroughly disinfect the terra and the whole decor (+ anti mite means treatment). (There can e.g. be chosen for an anti-mite as Frontline Spray (spray for kittens). Spray the terrarium in and repeat this after 2 weeks.)
